Angka Cafe Rejuvenation Centre & Green Clinic is nestled in all its calm and beautiful glory in the Millennia building in Marsa. The elegant open plan interior is laced with lush vines, and sits in the beautifully lit internal atrium of the building offering an impressive sense of space. It is immediately apparent that Lydia, the founder and manager of the café and centre, is a compelling force for holistic healing and conscious eating. She radiates knowledge when it comes to understanding the health benefits of different foods, and the most nutritional connection that we can develop with our food choices.
The café has just recently opened and already has some excellent initiatives in place, including the set up of a separate self-contained kitchen for food preparation of gluten free and vegan dishes. Eliminating opportunity for cross contamination is taking very here seriously here. There is a key focus on sourcing locally where possible, promoting organic food items and reducing artificial preservatives from the food. There are plans to set up an inhouse vertical garden for cultivating their own organic micro-greens to pack that extra healthy punch. While there is an important focus on vegetarian and vegan cuisine, there will be meat options on the menu as well.
Waste separation is in place with compost bins for gardens, and all disposables are compostable paper and bamboo. Eco-friendly cleaning products only are used, some are Lydia’s own concoctions. Water refills are now available, along with bring your own container incentives.
There is an excellent and alluring selection fair trade coffee and of organic teas on the shelves. Many of the teas are bought in bulk, and some of healthy remedy teas were foraging by hand when Lydia spent some time in Gozo. It is clear Lydia has a deep connection to her environment and what it offers her, her ethos infuses both respect for the body and the environment that sustains us.
Complimenting the café is the workshop centre, where there will be an assortment of opportunities to explore meditation and nutrition workshops. Having already inspired a number of local popular food pioneers promoting raw food and conscious eating, she looks forward to sharing the journey of healing.
