The lush welcoming greenery of the inhouse plants at the Grassy Hopper instantly soothe, and offer a welcoming retreat from the day to day hustle of city life. Rustic elegance is what comes to mind when the eyes sweep across the interior of the café, and the colourful dynamic food goods draw you to the counter.
The Grassy Hopper started out in a mobile kiosk, they were the early pioneers of plant based holistic nutrition in the local food scene here in Malta. Their passionate ethos of bringing healthy and energetic food to the people naturally took off, and resulted in the more permanent café set up in Gzira in 2014.
The food has always been put together through environmentally conscious choices, and with carefully chosen ingredients to provide the body with energy, without refined sugars and starches. The inhouse purchasing decisions are made with environmental consideration in mind, and sustainable suppliers are utilized for disposables and part of their deliveries. The dynamic team behind the counter are trained to educate and promote conscious food choices, and offer additional information for the curious customer.
Looking around the eatery, it is clear that sustainability is a key theme that runs not just through the food, packaging and purchasing decisions, but also through the ideology of place and interior design. There is an excellent mix of up-cycled materials, rustic wooden pieces and reclaimed furniture. It is a refreshing and inspiring experience, one that encourages you to think about your own choices of not just food, but lifestyle as well.
